Be Quick to Hear and Slow to Speak

I rose to a family text of multiple generations of family members arguing and complaining over what my father is wearing. After several minutes of reading back and forth,  responses, I simply suggested, “If he doesn’t like it, let him change it!” Each person chimed in, some causing near irreparable harm that will be felt for years to come.

As one who (due to the military) has been away for years, being physically close to family presents its own challenges. Reading the comments of my family members immediately brought to mind a verse in the Bible, Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” –Luke 9:60

Jesus knew the challenges that would come when families came together to lay to rest a loved one. Those who are spiritually minded understand that death is a part of life. Just as we once died to the life we had in our mother’s womb, so likewise, our physical body must die to the life on earth allowing our spirit to be born again.

Words matter especially during times when emotions are high. Even for this we are given wise counsel, be quick to hear and slow to speak. Let your yes be yes and your no no. Let each word be seasoned with grace and let the words of your heart and the meditation of your mind always be acceptable in God’s sight.

You all be blessed and guard your heart ❤ for out of it flows life.
